How to make your Steam profile public
Make your Steam profile and its comment section public in a few steps, so other people can see it and leave comments.
Updated October 30, 2026
A private Steam profile hides almost everything: your games, your level, your friends and the comment section. If you want people to see your profile, or leave comments on it, it needs to be public. It takes about thirty seconds.
Make your profile public
- Open Steam (the app or
steamcommunity.com) and click your name at the top, then Profile. - Click Edit Profile on the right.
- Choose Privacy Settings in the menu on the left.
- Set My profile to Public.
- Set Comments to Public if you want anyone to be able to comment, not only your friends.
There's no save button: Steam saves each change as soon as you make it.
What the other privacy settings do
- Game details: whether people can see which games you own and how long you've played them. Many trading and stat sites need this to be public too.
- Friends list: who can see your friends.
- Inventory: who can see your items. Trading sites need it public.
- Always keep my total playtime private: hides your hours even when game details are public.
Each one can be Public, Friends Only or Private, separately from the others, so you can open your comments without showing your inventory.
Check that it worked
Sign out, or open your profile link in a private browser window. If you can see your profile and its comment section there, everyone can. You can also paste your profile link into our Steam ID Finder: it shows whether the profile is public.
Getting comments on your profile
On Rep4Rep, other members leave comments on your public profile, and you earn points by commenting on theirs. Your profile and its comments have to be public for that to work, so that's exactly what the steps above set up. Need inspiration for your own comments? See our Steam comment ideas.
